What is IPL skin rejuvenation?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a light treatment used to treat concerns such as sun damage, brown spots, pigmentation, redness, fine lines and wrinkles. We use high energy visible light. No damaging UV light is used.

How will it improve my skin?
It will help reduce brown spots, uneven pigmentation, redness and blood vessels giving a brighter, more even coloured complexion, and more youthful appearance. The skin produces new collagen, plumping out fine lines and wrinkles. This is called skin rejuvenation. We take before and after photos.

Who does it suit?
Fair to medium skins. Not suitable for very dark or tanned skin. Particularly effective for sun damage- men and women.

What does it feel like?
It feels like a hot flick, a little like a rubber band being snapped.. It is a little uncomfortable, but not painful. This can be altered for sensitive skin.

What happens during treatment?
You will be given eye protection. A cold gel is applied. The IPL flash lamp is applied gently and flashed. The light passes through the surface of the skin. Any colour irregularities such as brown spots or red blood vessels absorb this light and break down over next few weeks. During this time, new collagen is produced, and will continue to improve over the next 6 months. Skin will become smoother, more even in colour, with fewer lines and wrinkles. Will look brighter, healthier, and younger. Many people find they don’t need to wear as much makeup.

Is it safe?
IPL has been around for 30 years and is very safe in the hands of an experienced laser technician. Side effects are rare. There will be an initial darkening of the pigment over a week or so, and slight redness which does not usually last more than a few days. Occasionally there can be slight swelling under the eyes, but is not usually noticeable.

What areas can be treated?
Anywhere on the body can be treated where there has been sun damage. The most common areas are face, neck, chest and backs of hands.

How many treatments are needed and how often?
Up to you. A big improvement can be seen after one treatment. We recommend 2-5 treatments around 6 weeks apart.

What will my skin look like immediately after?
It will be slightly red and feel a little like sunburn. This can start to reduce even before you leave. Any brown spots or pigmentation will go darker immediately, and will continue to darken over a few days. You can cover this with make up if needed. There is no broken skin. Sometimes, brown spots can flake off after a couple of weeks.

How long will it last?
The new collagen created by the skin is there to stay, however, your skin will continue to age, depending on how you look after it. The new collagen does not disappear like fillers and botox do. However, we do recommend a maintence treatment every 1-2 years depending on your skin concerns. Some people come back after 3-4 years. This is really up to you, and the way you look after your skin. Hormones and stress can also play a large part in skin aging.
To protect against further damage, a medical grade spf 30 sunblock must be used daily - summer and winter. Using topical antioxidants such as Vit C, will also make a big difference. This will help stop new pigmentation and red blood vessels from forming, as well as directly improving collagen production. Please check with us which is the best sunblock for you, as this is very important. The right homecare products prescribed and used will double your results.

How do I get started and how much does it cost?
Firstly, ring us for your IPL pre-check which takes 5-10 minutes. This is free. We check your skin, medication and sunblock. We can then book you for your one hour consultation and test patch. This is $50 redeemable on treatment.
Full face treatment is $390 per treatment including your initial home care products. See our promotions page for our latest IPLspecials
